Vojta therapy (Vojta method rehabilitation) is an internationally recognised rehabilitation method that has been used for many years. It can be applied to both infants and older children. Vojta therapy, when started early, helps to reduce the consolidation of pathological patterns. In older children, we influence the improvement of functional abilities. The potential of the Vojta method lies not only in the stimulation of psychomotor development and the development of correct movement patterns, but even in the elimination of already existing and established pathological synergisms, and among the significant advantages of the method is the possibility of its application in people who do not follow instructions and do not cooperate with the therapist.
The basic premise of Vojta is the existence of a genetically encoded and global locomotor pattern. Exercises are based on triggering the patient’s muscular responses, i.e. the encoded pattern. This method uses deep sensory receptors ( prioprioreceptors ) to stimulate the central nervous system. It involves placing the patient in a specific position. Then maintaining it for a certain period of time – while stimulating the stimulation zone – to obtain a well-defined response. The stimulation zone is a selection of points on the body, the pressure of which, with the appropriate force, influences the rolling of reflexes and the improvement of disturbed movement patterns.
Parents play an important role in the rehabilitation process with the Vojta method by practising with their child at home. The physiotherapist teaches the parents how to perform the therapy correctly and determines the intensity of the exercises. The effectiveness of the therapy, and thus the therapeutic success, is determined by the intensity of the exercises and the accuracy of their execution. Its versatility allows it to be used in various neurological disorders and can be applied from the first days of life.
