REHABILITATION STAY FOR CHILDREN BEFORE SDR TREATMENT (rhizotomy)
SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) is one of the methods of treating spasticity by cutting a selected part of the sensory fibers running in the dorsal roots of the spinal nerves. Reducing the number of sensory impulses reaching the spinal cord also reduces the amount of reflexively generated motor impulses going to the muscles, thus reducing spasticity.
It is very important to properly prepare the patient’s body for the procedure. An intensive therapy before the surgery provides more effective results in the fight against spasticity. In particular, during the therapy before the SDR procedure, we work on muscle strength, balance and coordination.
